I chose chapter 17 in the Christakis titled International Boundary-Spanning Dialogues. It makes a very good use of the collaboration portion of the SDP. It brings together the various groups to help them understand each other. This is important because a lot of the times people tend to say the same thing and just need a way of knowing that they are saying the same thing but using different terminology. This is essential and the first step in using the SDP in a practical manner.
This case study also shows the use of the SDP to provide exploratory options to the participants. According to the study this gave them a concept of "success" and in my opinion allowed them to see the progress they need to keep pushing forward. The forces involved were more of political in terms of treatments and best ways to approcah the treatments. There also seemed to be quite a bit of a social status involved. The seperation of the parties helped to alleviate the various opinions and thoughts at the social level.
